Dunwoody Soap Box Derby
5/27/2009

Welcome to the Dunwoody/NE Georgia Soap Box Derby!

Three years ago, when the Dunwoody Kiwanis Club began the process of applying to become an official franchise of the All-American Soap Box Derby organization, this day was exactly what we had in mind: a certified local race with both stock and Super Stock classes of cars racing.

Thanks to the support of local businesses, community organizations and individuals too numerous to mention, we've seen the excitement grow each week and a dream has become a reality.

Our overriding goal has always been to stage an event with family-oriented fun for everyone, and although it has been a lot of work, I think we've succeeded. And it can only get better from here!

Special thank-you's go to Crier Newspapers and the Dunwoody Homeowners' Association for co-sponsoring the 2009 Derby, and to First Baptist Church Atlanta for hosting us again this year. We couldn't have asked for better, more involved partners!

Thank-you's also go to those numerous businesses and organizations that have sponsored cars and banners, provided locations for car clinics or supplied goods and services - all of which are necessary elements of an event like the Derby. You will find a complete listing in the program book.

We're looking forward to sending our two local champions to Akron, Ohio to compete for the national title. Race week in Akron begins July 19, with the national race being held on Saturday, July 25. We're hoping to see national championship trophies coming home with our winners!

But right now, let's get on with the race! Have fun and enjoy yourself - and thank you for coming!

Sincerely,

Addie
