News : A Message from the Race Director

Dunwoody Soap Box Derby
4/22/2011

Welcome to the 2011 Dunwoody-NE Georgia Soap Box Derby!  I am pleased and excited to be the Race Director for the year's Soap Box Derby and I am looking forward to greeting you personally on Race Day!

I grew up racing in our local Derby and now my children, as well as my sister's children, are also competing!  I have had the pleasure of serving as Race Director for the City of Columbus (GA).  I've attended all of Dunwoody's races from the beginning and come away quite impressed.  It's quite an undertaking to start from the beginning to build such an event.

The Dunwoody Derby has created a lot of excitement in the Derby racing community as an up-and-coming community event.  And that's exactly what Derby organizers had in mind when the very first Derby was run in akron all those years ago -- a family-oriented event the entire community could enjoy.

The Dunwoody Derby has grown each year, and this year will be no exception with the addition of the Super Kids race for children with disabilities.  They will race down the same hill the Stock and Super Stock drivers use in specially-built cars designed to hold the Super Kid and a driver.

We're looking forward to sending our local champions to Akron to compete in the 74th All American race on July 25 and we're hoping to see National Championship trophies coming home with our winners!

I hope you'll take a minute to mark your calendars for this year's Race and then come out on Race Day to cheer on our young racers.  I'm looking forward to meeting you!

Sincerely,

Nancy Mooney
